SQLPro for PostgreSQL App Reviews
very expensive
Very expensive for features.
Doesnt allow me to edit any information in results table. Cant find a way to click on a row and delete it either. It works fine if I type the query out long and execute the sql statement, but I might as well just stick to the command line if I have to do that.
This application has a few nice features (tab completion, filtering on tables/views, running multiple queries), but is lacking in some other areas. For instance, when using multiple schemas inside a database, the application does append the schema name so row deletion isn’t possible now is adding columns to a table via the view alter. Also, it would be nice to be able to see the sql that was used to create the table/view.
NO SSH TUNNELING!
So, if you want a client for Redshift inside of a VPC, and you don’t want to roll your own forwarder every time you connect, DO NOT BUY THIS APP!
Arrays not working
Can not update an array when unnesting them.
Best in class
I've tried a ton of Postgres clients and have always come back to this. It's the easiest to use, does everything I need, and the developer is fast to respond to bug reports to boot. Highly recommend.
Useful and productive app; easier to use than DBeaver
Can you please update the icon to be higher contrast? it just doesn't stand out when I use Cmd Tab
Bought it, now they switch to subscription
I don't pay a subscription for a hammer. I'll gladly support companies that make useful tools, and I'll upgrade when new features are needed, managing my own budget on my schedule. That is why I bought this software. Now, I'm being notified that it requires a subscription. Is that even legal?
Essential part of my workflow
Over the years, I've tested many Postgres UI apps and always just went back to the terminal where I'm often happiest. But SQLPro is just really well designed. It helps me be more productive with its query interface and data export features but it's also simple and intuitive and doesn't get in my way. Would 100% recommend to anyone who does serious regular work in Postgres.
OK, but...
I've been using this app for years. I can't get around the problems that: - About once a month I need to remind it that I'm a paying customer - The price has increased heavily and it's not really worth the cost - The shortcuts are completely different to the rest of MacOS
Crashes, docs out of date, $150
He wants $150 for this app. Crashes when you click the "Connect" button. Support wiki is way out of date; screenshots do not match the app at all. I'll pay $150 for an app that works, and has good docs. Not this one.
Better than most postgres tools for Mac, needs improvement
This tool has some annoying bugs. Not the least is the way an auto-renewing subscription requires you re-install the app to get it to work. Other bugs are related to "alter table". Nonetheless this tool generates excellent DDL and, when it works, exports tables cleanly to JSON and CSV. However, it's not hard to put this tool into a bad state where it must be restarted or else it will crash.
Makes doing database work less intimidating
Honestly, I have been a software enegineer for several years and always been intimidated by creating SQL queries for reading and updating databases. This app has given me my first set of pleasant experiences working with databases! I honestly feel a little excited whenever I get to open this app up now because it makes it one of the smoothest experiences of my work day. Highly recommend!
Really useful
Easy to browse database structure & construct simple SQL programs. Handier than working with the command line, at least for simpler queries, and a good way to prototype & test queries.
User it every day
Im using it locally to develop a Swift on the server Vapor app. Worth every penny. One request, please allow multiple selections of table columns so I can delete a bunch at a time.
As a developer...
... I understand and love the notion of getting paid for your work, and I pay for my tools. I was using this package through SetApp the last few years, and recently dropped SetApp from my life just to simplify things. I always loved and relied on this tool. Happy to pay for it, except... come on, IN APP purchase just to actually do anything with the results? That's dumb. It's a good application. Just make it a pay-to-use application. I'll pay the purchase price, but that's just sleazy. Not a fan of the apparent bait-n-switch, especially since I coudln't find a price for it on the app store without installing it and doing the actual work to bang a query only to see the paywall. That's some serious used car salesman level of sleaze right there. :(
Pretty slick!
SQLite is as handy as it gets for database creation and management. The drawback, of course, is that it's not intended for access by multiple clients that may attempt to connect simultaneously. Postgresql is an open source (free) database system that is very similar in syntax to SQLite, and which accommodates multiple simultaneous calls for data. SQLPro makes creation, entry and retrieval from a Postgresql database located on a remote server nearly as easy to carry out as it is with a local SQLite database. Doing that requires ssh tunneling, which the app makes easy to set up. When migrating from SQLite to Postgresql, binary data from SQLite can be imported directly into Postgresql's bytea hex format, with binary data automatically converted to a hex string. So far, I'm very pleased with how the app makes an otherwise fairly complicated migration easy.
By far my favorite Postgres Client for MacOS
I've been using this tool for years and it's never let me down. It's quick to load, snappy with query responses and the UI is very easy to navigate. I've tried multiple other Postgres clients for MacOS over the years, usually when I start a new job and there is another default tool being used. However, I always end up going back to this one.
Not free
The app is not free, and I could do nothing by connect to the database.
Fast and Clean
SQLPro is a joy to use. I've used it with PostgreSQL, SQL Server, and MySQL. PgAdmin has all the administrative features, but SQLPro is fast and clean if you need to write and run querires. It's worth the money.
needs reinstalled every month
Every month when the billing is renewed this app goes into trial/demo-mode. The only way to authorize it again is to delete it from my computer, find it on the app store (which, for some reason isn't easy) and re-download it. Fortunately, it picks up where i left off and i don't have to re-enter DB info or SQL statements.
cant do anything
functionalities are behind a pay wall. The free version has nothing.
Do not waste a penny on this
Do not waste a penny on this. The only thing it has going for it is speed. No way to deop schema. No way to add, edit, delete users. No export to SQL and import to SQL. It is very simple app. You can download a full featured app like DBeaver which is free and has 100 times more feature and its free community edition.
Great tool and support
I've been using SQLPro for Postgres for four years and it's been a fantastic tool. I love how simple it - just the features I need without the bloat. I recently found a bug and the developer responded quickly and rolled out a release quickly to address it.
Good tool, but bad at managing subscriptions
The tool works fairly well and is definately an improvement over command line. Being a paid app, you expect it to perform fairly well. Every couple of weeks it will claim I'm not paying for it (even though I am). If you click the Restore subscriptions it prompts you to enter your apple password but then does nothing and it doesn't give you access to the tools you are paying for. It took me a while to figure out you have to restore the subscriptions and then restart the application. Very annoying.
Subscribe?!
Hi I paid the full version, now it is asking to subscribe?
Necessary tool for development with Postgres on Mac
I'm not a command-line sql kind of guy. I like visual tools (UI apps), and I am happy to pay for this.
Great tool
Easiest SQL client to use, I recommend it to all my coworkers!
Fast, no feature glut
Does exactly what I need it to do and not bogged down by useless or slow features. - Connection management - Syntax highlighting, typeahead suggestions - Handles relatively large datasets BLAZING FAST - Bookmarks/Favorite queries - History - Search for table/column - Multiple SQL editor tabs - Keyboard shortcuts for executing queries - Export to CSV/JSON Wish there was an export to XLS(X) but otherwise, keep this lean and perfect at everything it does!
cheap tactic!
this seems good at first until you try to view the results of any query and it asks you to buy or subscribe. i didn't even look at the price, or have a chance to use this software enough to decide if it was worth anything. closed, uninstalled, and 1-star review for the deceptive tactic.
Just a demo
Requires subscription to even show the first query result. Should be made clear - "offers a Premium subscription" is misleading.
Nice but moved to SQLPro Studio
This does work nice, but I ended up moving to SQLPro Studio by the same company, because it handles multiple types of databases.
Recent update introduced a bug.
This has been a great app, and met most of my needs. But, since the most recent update, it crashes every time I try to update a field. There isn’t much value in this app if I need to revert back to the command line for changing database values. Before this recent bug, the app has been great. I’ll be happy to change my rating to 5 stars after this bug is fixed. Update: The newer update still hasn’t fixed my crashing problem. I still use SQLPro, but it’s become kind of a pain. I’m still hopeful that a fix will be shipped in the near future. Another Update: The newest update has fixed the crashing problem. Thanks!
Great for RedShift
I use this app to connect to Redshift using ssh tunneling. Works really well. Nice UX. Also support is really good, they fixed bugs i noticed in just a few days.
Great Interface
The mac is sorely lacking a rich SQL editing environment, but this is the closest I’ve found. And great customer support; had a bug fixed within a day! Would rate 6 stars if I could. Appreciate the effort that went into making this.
Some nice features
This application has a few nice features (tab completion, filtering on tables/views, running multiple queries), but is lacking in some other areas. For instance, when using multiple schemas inside a database, the application does append the schema name so row deletion isn’t possible now is adding columns to a table via the view alter. Also, it would be nice to be able to see the sql that was used to create the table/view.
NO SSH TUNNELING!
So, if you want a client for Redshift inside of a VPC, and you don’t want to roll your own forwarder every time you connect, DO NOT BUY THIS APP!
